Dr. James Self is tenured, Associate Professor of design, and Director of the Design Thinking Research Lab. Prof. Self holds a doctorate in industrial design and previously worked for several years in the design industry, both in his native
London and Sydney, Australia.

The Design Thinking Research Lab at the Department of Design, UNIST aims to understand what design thinking is. How do we think when designing, and what is the role of external tools, and design representation in design thinking? We employ design as research approach to explore design thinking, design skills and abilities. We conduct projects aimed to further understand distributed design cognition, and apply creative design thinking methods to develop innovative design-driven solutions.
