The overarching research theme of Computational Structural Mechanics & Design (CSMD) Lab is to understand and harness the mechanical behavior of solids and structures with the aid of numerical analysis and design. In particular, we are actively thrusting the following technical areas, but not limited to:
1. Multiscale and multi-physics analysis of additive manufacturing process
2. Multiphysics topology optimization of large-deforming body
3. AI-driven acceleration of structural analysis and design
4. Improvement of the states-of-the-art numerical structural analysis method
We believe that these are particularly important in multifunctional materials (aka smart), which are prospect game-changers in soft-robotics, adaptive structures, and bio-mimetic systems. To this aim, we are developing and integrating computational methods to simulate and design structures with inhomogeneities and distinctive topology with the ever-increasing computing power.
