Established on Apr. 25, 2011, in guideline no. 12.
Revised on May 3, 2012, in guideline no. 34.
Revised on Oct. 31, 2012, in guideline no. 50.
Article 1 (Purpose)
This guideline provides details about the Regulation on Research Work and other separate regulations specified under the Detailed Enforcement Rules in the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) and Academy Industry Research Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “the University”) to allow the University to provide researchers with compensation equivalent to their research achievements and efforts and may enhance their motivations to perform research or facilitate consigned research.
Article 2 (Definitions)
Incentives (research allowances) refer to any incentives (research allowances) for research projects reflected in the Research Project Plan for a National Research and Development Project or any research expenses that are executed according to the incentive (research allowance) payment standards of the University.
Article 3 (Detailed Payment Standard)
① To the extent of incentives (research allowances) budget reflected in the Research Project Plan, both the principal investigator and participating researchers who participate in performing a research project shall be eligible for such incentives. Research allowances for participating researchers shall be paid by the principal investigator according to their special contribution rating.
② In principle, faculty research allowances shall not exceed the overhead costs of the project.
③ Research allowances shall be paid according to the following payment standards:
- National institution-funded projects: No more than the amount reflected in the Final Research Project Plan
- Industrial projects: No more than 30% of the total research expenses
- Other projects: No more than the upper limit of the amount specified by the supporting institutes
④ The contribution ratings specified above in Article 3.1 shall generally reflect academic achievements, including dissertations, patents, research performance results, and project participation rates. (Newly established on May 3, 2012)
⑤ In principle, the principal investigator or one (1) participating researcher may receive no more than 75% of incentives (research allowances) budget for a research project, except if there is any special guidelines developed in the supporting institutes or there is no participating researcher besides the principal investigator. (Newly established on May 3, 2012)
⑥ For research projects covered by the Regulation on Management of National Research and Development Projects, incentives (research allowances) shall be reduced in proportion to the labor costs removed from the amount specified in the Research and Development Plan. (Newly established on Oct. 31, 2012)
Article 4 (Application and Payment Procedures)
The principal investigator shall prepare a Research Allowances Application Form for Participating Researchers (Form No. 1) no later than 2 months before the end of the relevant research period, and the allowances shall be collectively paid by the Academic Research Support Team on the basis of the principal investigator’s contribution ratings for the researchers. For any short-term research projects not longer than 6 months, however, the allowances may be paid no later than 1 month before the end of the relevant research period. In the case of any research projects exempted from the Regulation on Management of National Research and Development Projects, the timing and procedures of the research allowances payment may be separately specified. (Revised on Oct. 31, 2012)
Article 5 (Rules of Application)
With regard to incentives (research allowances), other matters not specified in this guideline shall be mutatis mutandis covered by the relevant regulations of the supporting institute.
