Language variation and Language ideology
전 지구화된 사회(과테말라 및 한국 사회)에서의 언어 사용 및 언어이데올로기에 대한 민족지적 연구를 해왔다. 최근 언어 경관 등 다언어사용과 언어이데올로기, 언어경관에 대한 연구는 물론, 미디어 재현 및 기업문화에 대한 연구를 수행 중이다.
My research involves ethnographic study of language use and language ideologies in the globalized, multicultural societies such as Guatemala and Korea. My recent study deals with spaces of language use in multilingual environment and the ways in which intercultural communication occurs in cultural contact areas in Korean society. In addition, I have recently been engaged in two areas of inquiry. One line of inquiry involves the media representations of gender and regional identity in Korea; the other is a study on the corporate culture of startup companies.
