○ Young Researcher Program

This program aims to nurture excellent researchers by encouraging the motivation for creative research and maximizing research capacity among researchers.
– To achieve world-class performance in S&T and heighten national competitiveness by improving the quality of basic research based on intensive support for research based upon creative and pioneering ideas.

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 3 years

Eligibility : Researchers in universities (including part-time researchers), researchers in public and private institutes

Budget : KRW 50 million per project

Program Description:

Young Researchers program: To motivate and train young researchers to become the next generation of leading researchers by enlarging research opportunities

Women Scientists: To nurture female scientists and strengthen their research capability

Young Mentoring(former career Scientists): To pursue joint research with young researchers based on research capability of experienced career scientists

Individual Basic Science&Engineering Research Program

This program aims to establish a research hub at universities by supporting the infrastructure for university-affiliated research institutes and to encourage them to pursue specialization and professionalization.

It also helps key research institutes undertake a central role in nurturing excellent rising researchers.

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 3 years

Eligibility : Researchers in universities (including part-time researchers), researchers in public and private institutes

Budget : KRW 50 million per project

Program Description:

General Individual: To facilitate S&E grass-roots basic research

Less Favored: To guarantee stable support for less favored academic fields that need political considerations

Research Fellows: To support Ph.D researchers at universities by providing them with innovative research opportunities

Scientists in Local Universities: To strengthen regional S&T research capability and nurture excellent local researchers

Mid-career Researcher Program

This program aims to enhance basic research capability through intensive support for mid-career researchers in pivotal roles across basic research areas, thereby expanding the production of excellent research outcomes and nurturing world leaders in research.

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 3 years

Eligibility : Researchers in universities (including part-time researchers), researchers in public and private institutes

Budget : KRW 100~200 million (Core Research); Up to KRW 300 million (National Research Lab)

Program Description:

Core Research: Supporting individual and joint research carried out by senior researchers

National Research Lab: Classifying and supporting top-down and bottom-up research with high potential

Leading Researcher Program

This program aims to intensively support in-depth research by world-class researchers in order to advance novel scientific knowhow and develop new technologies.

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 9 years (3+3+3 years, Creative Research), 10 years (5+5 years, National Scientist)

Eligibility : Researchers in universities (including part-time researchers), researchers in public and private institutes

Budget : KRW 500~800 million per project (Creative Research), KRW 1.5 billion (National Scientist)

Program Description:

Creative Research: Developing and supporting the next generation of global research leaders who have creative ideas

National Scientist: Contributing to the nation’s economy and the development of science and technology by supporting world-class scientists

Advanced Research Center Program

This program aims to identify and support research groups equipped with world-class creativity and excellence, and to develop them into a reservoir of creativity with the capacity to solve scientific challenges and resolve social issues, thus facilitating the advancement of national R&D.

Basic Research Lab Program

This program aims to help universities enhance research cohesiveness and capability and promote the establishment of autonomous research groups by fostering and supporting small-scale basic research groups centered around specific research fields, thus driving them to grow into excellent research groups and subsequently expand national competitiveness and the fundamental research base in Korea.

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 5 years (3+2 years)

Eligibility : Small and medium-sized, subject and department-based research groups in the same university (consisting of 4~5 professors)

Budget : KRW 300~ 500 million per project according to the laboratory type (theory/experiment)

Global Research Lab Program

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 6 years (3+3 years)

Eligibility : Research organizations such as research centers, labs and research groups among institutions pursuant to Article 14 of the Basic Research Promotion and Technology Development Support Act, which possess expertise in the relevant fields and infrastructure required for international cooperation

Budget : KRW 500 million per project

Basic Research Infrastructure Support Program

Aimed at increasing national competitiveness through the following measures: providing necessary research information for basic research; creating an efficient research environment; supporting the creation of infrastructure in order to build research hubs in universities; and fostering new researchers

Funded Period : 1~5 years

Eligibility : Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering

Budget : KRW 33~150 million

[University-Centered Labs]

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 9 years (3+3+3 years)

Eligibility : Attached research laboratory to a science and engineering university

Budget : KRW 600 million

[Utilization of Research Information]

Funded Fields : Science and engineering

Funded Period : 5 years (2+3 years)

Eligibility : Researchers in universities (including part-time researchers), researchers in public and private institutes

Budget : KRW 200 million (Main center), KRW 170 million (Sub-center)
